Treatments most local clinics don't have
Alongside hands-on podiatry, we offer two equipment-based treatments for stubborn pain that hasn't responded to other approaches. Both are non-invasive, and neither needs a referral.
Radial Shockwave Therapy
This is a treatment for a variety of conditions. It uses shockwaves, better thought of as pressure waves, to improve circulation and prompt the body's natural healing. Despite the name, there are no electrodes and no electric shocks. The pressure waves are delivered through a handpiece aimed at the precise point of the problem.
In podiatry the main uses are plantar fasciitis (heel spur syndrome), Achilles tendonitis and myofascial trigger points, which are traditionally treated with acupuncture needles, so this is a useful alternative for anyone who would rather avoid needles.
If you have heel pain, either underneath or at the back of the heel, this may be the treatment for you, particularly if other approaches haven't worked.
Non-invasive. No referral required. Health fund rebates apply.
Deep Tissue Laser Therapy
Deep Tissue Laser Therapy treats painful muscles and joints linked to acute and chronic soft-tissue injuries. It also helps relieve the pain and stiffness of osteoarthritis by increasing local blood flow, which makes it a sensible choice for recovery after activity.
Why patients choose it
- Non-surgical – a useful option for managing pain before and after surgery when surgery is needed, and for cases where you'd rather avoid it.
- Drug-free – it can help manage pain without the cost and side effects of prescription drugs.
- Fast relief – many patients feel a soothing warmth during treatment and a quick reduction in pain, which can help you get back to the things you enjoy sooner.
How the laser works
Laser therapy uses focused light to stimulate a process called photobiomodulation. Photons enter the tissue and trigger a biological response that increases cellular metabolism, which can reduce pain and inflammation and speed healing.
Ask whether shockwave or laser is right for you
Book in for a diagnosis and we'll tell you honestly whether one of these treatments fits, or whether a simpler approach will do the job.
