Alongside hands-on podiatry, we offer two equipment-based treatments for stubborn pain that hasn't responded to other approaches. Both are non-invasive, and neither needs a referral.

This is a treatment for a variety of conditions. It uses shockwaves, better thought of as pressure waves, to improve circulation and prompt the body's natural healing. Despite the name, there are no electrodes and no electric shocks. The pressure waves are delivered through a handpiece aimed at the precise point of the problem.

In podiatry the main uses are plantar fasciitis (heel spur syndrome), Achilles tendonitis and myofascial trigger points, which are traditionally treated with acupuncture needles, so this is a useful alternative for anyone who would rather avoid needles.

If you have heel pain, either underneath or at the back of the heel, this may be the treatment for you, particularly if other approaches haven't worked.

How the laser works

Laser therapy uses focused light to stimulate a process called photobiomodulation. Photons enter the tissue and trigger a biological response that increases cellular metabolism, which can reduce pain and inflammation and speed healing.
